What Will Jim Harbaugh Do?

The most sought after coach in America right now is Jim Harbaugh, the coach of the Stanford Cardinal. The University of Michigan just fired Rich Rodriguez and are in pursuit of Harbaugh. Harbaugh is an alum of Michigan and is their clear cut #1 choice. The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos are both also trying to court him. Most sources indicate that it is between the San Francisco 49ers or staying at Stanford. He has built the program since he arrived in 2007, leading them to a 12-1 record this season and a 40-12 victory in the Orange Bowl over Virginia Tech. Hopefully he stays at Stanford, but we will see.

The Stanford Cardinal Rolls Along, Andrew Luck Continues to Shine

If not for a bad second half against the Oregon Ducks, the Stanford Cardinal may have been in discussion for the BCS National Championship. In fact, I bet they would be the 1st or 2nd ranked team in the country right up there with the Auburn Tigers. They are now 10-1 on the season and 7-1 in the Pac-10 after beating the Cal Golden Bears 48 to 14 on Saturday. Andrew Luck threw for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran 3 times for 72 yards. If not for Cam Newtown, Andrew Luck would be the front runner for the Heisman Trophy possibly. He still should be attending the ceremony. If Oregon falters against Arizona or Oregon State, then Stanford could be sneaking in as Pac-10 Champs.

Pac-10 Heisman Trophy Watch

The Pac-10 has a number of talented players. As of right now, the Pac-10 has 2 players within striking distance of the Heisman Trophy. As always, the player must be on a contending team or at least a team that has been in the mix for a BCS game. Currently, LaMichael James from Oregon and Andrew Luck are 3rd and 4th in the ESPN Heisman Trophy watch. They trail Cameron Newton of Auburn and Kellen Moore of Boise State. The rankings change on a week to week basis but if Oregon and Stanford can stay in the BCS mix and keep delivering, both will have a chance at the end of the season.

Week Five Game of the Week

Here's my Week Five Game of the Week:

USC at #16 Stanford - Here's my reasoning:

A few years ago, Stanford upset the mighty USC at their own house on a last second touchdown. Stanford went into a frenzy. Don't think any of the USC faithful have forgot about that night. Stanford was something like a 40 point underdog. Now, this time, USC is the underdog.

Prediction: Stanford 35, USC 27

Stanford's Spring Practice

Stanford was on day three of their spring practice last Thursday. For the Cardinals football players, it marked the first day in full pads and finally get to practice full contact. Each player participating in spring practices are getting in on the action, from first string the the bottom of the barrel. This is really great for moral on the team, because everyone is getting an equal chance to show what they've been improving on...or need help with. Offensive lineman James McGillicuddy is especially excited to start the season off with a bang stating, "This is an awesome day for football." The Cardinals are pumped for the season to start, and you should too. Don't miss out on a Stanford Cardinals football game this season!

Stanford Cardinals

I am back yet again with the Stanford Cardinals.

The Stanford Cardinals began playing football in 1892, only one year after the University was founded. Over the decades, a large rivalry has developed between Stanford and Cal, after Standford beat them in their first Big Game. This has become one of the oldest rivalry games in college football. Since 1981, Stanford has been known as the Cardinal, changed their name to the Indians from 1930 to 1972. The change came after Standford native American students met with President Richard Lyman, and expressed the insult they felt by the mascot to their culture and heritage.

The Stanford Cardinals have a653-451-52 (.587) record, which is one of the highest in the Pac-10. Though the Cardinals have gone through many coaches since its establishment, the Standford football program's head coach is Jim Harbaugh who has been their for the past three years. As a college football player himself, Harbaugh knows what it takes to succeed and pushes his team on and off the field. Alumni of the Cardinals have won numerous awards, including the Heisman Trophy, and more recently in 2009, the Doak Walker Award. The Standford Cardinals continues to produce amazing players and an outstanding record to make sure to check them out this next season!

Oregon State Beavers take on the Stanford Cardinal

The Oregon State Beavers take on the Stanford Cardinal who so far are undefeated in the Pacific Ten Conference. In fact the Cardinal have only lost once this season and it was on the road to Wake Forest.

Football critics are saying though that the Oregon State-Stanford game will be the Cardinal's first really challenging Pac-10 Conference Game. Earlier this season Stanford beat Washington State, Washington and UCLA.

Analysts say that the trick to beating Stanford this season will be containing the ground game that relies heavily on tailback Tobey Gerhart, who at 237 pounds is more like a Moose than a football player but they boy has skills. The trick for Oregon State who does not have the best defense in the conference (though they don't have the worst either) will be to keep the ball in the air. If Oregon State can pass the ball early on and keep the Cardinal Defense on the field they have a real shot at shutting down Stanford's Pac 10 streak.

Can the Stanford Cardinal football team pull through this season?

Last season Pac-10 fans know that the Stanford Cardinal football team had several almosts but ended its season with a disappointing 5-7 record overall with a 4-5 record for conference games. However, three of those 7 losses came down to a touchdown or less. Something that the 17 returning starters from the 2008 Stanford Cardinal roster are sure to remember. Cardinal football fans are hopeful that with the returning players there will be a continued momentum that carries on from last season and translates into wins. Along with several returning players the Stanford Cardinal roster is going to be boosted by an incoming class that is incredibly athletic and extremely talented. Stanford University head coach Jim Harbaugh is hopeful that this new “competition” will push the returning players into playing their best in order to retain their starting position.

One of these new-comers to the Cardinal program is Andrew Luck, the redshirted freshman who will take over as starting quarterback. In the spring game Andrew Luck passed for 352 yards and 5 touchdowns, something that caught the attention of not just the Stanford Cardinal fans sitting in the stands but also the coaching staff on the sidelines.

With the new freshman class and a returning line that has NCAA Division-I experience under their belt, the Stanford Cardinal football program has a good shot this season of seeing a winning record and a postseason experience. In this Pac-10 fans opinion, what the Stanford Cardinal need to focus on now is their pass defense. If the Cardinal secondary can learn to pull down passes and pick up interceptions, I think they have a shot at going all the way this season!
